Egyptian paste is this amazing, shiny, glassy substance that the Egyptians (go figure) used to create art and functional pieces. From what I’ve found, most Egyptian paste comes in this absolutely gorgeous turquoise blue. Chemically speaking, it has a very low clay content and mostly consists of silica and flux. Because of this, it is self-glazing, which means it must be fired on stilts to prevent it from sticking to the kiln shelf. You can check out some photos below!
